The Earth is round
|
|
Young Cornelia Harms stood with her famaily in the crowded station. After hundreds of boxes were loaded, people began boarding. It was exciting, firghtening and sad. Life wound never be the same. The late 1800's were not ordinary times for Mennonites in Russia. The Czar has broken the promise. With Mennonite youths no longer exempt from military service, Cornelia's entire colony was moving to Canada. The family left behind a married sister and a homeland they would never see again. Homesteading in a new land was difficult. Deaths of dear ones left Cornelia's faith shaken and her heart wrenched, bitter and searching for peace. This is a sad story of material wealth eroding spiritual fevour and conviction. It is a powerful story of God's sovereignty and faithfulness. It is a joyful story of restoration and hope. And it is a sobering story, reminding us our times of peace and prosperity could quickly change. |
